Educational Visits & Clubs

At Cloughside we believe educational visits are fundamental to providing a well-rounded education. Involvement in visits depend on students' leave status. We have successfully carried out visits to art galleries, theatres, fishing excursions, and stadium tours, enriching students’ learning experience beyond the classroom. Out of college hours students access therapies and activities with nhs staff including support workers and therapists. These activities include sports, art, music and visits outside the hospital.

Learning opportunities outside the classroom are often the most memorable learning experiences, helping to make sense of the world around us by making links between feelings and learning. They stay with us into adulthood and affect our behaviour, lifestyle and work. They influence our values and the decisions we make. They allow us to transfer learning experienced outside to the classroom and vice versa. Learning outside the classroom is about raising achievement through an organised, powerful approach to learning in which, direct experience is of prime importance. This is not only about what we learn but importantly how and where we learn.

Recent educational visits have included: the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, fishing trips, charity events, transport museums, visits to the theatre, Old Trafford, Jodrell Bank, Affleck's Palace, treetop wire-walks, Heaton Park, swimming baths, gymnasiums and Bury steam trains.

Our students are encouraged to attend various activities outside of the College: Art Festivals, Conferences for Student Representatives, Sports’ Activities, etc. At these events, our learners are able to share and convey their experiences and knowledge and enrich the lives of others.

Safety for Educational Visits and for outdoor adventurous activities is critically dependent on the quality of leadership; we always ensure challenge is appropriate and risk assessed. The College in fulfilling its duties under Health and Safety law is required to comply with the Trust’s and the Local Authority’s legislation and we obtain appropriate approval before undertaking any educational/off site visit.
