After Discharge

Occasionally young people will leave the hospital setting at a time when college admission windows are closed, meaning that there may be a wait to re-engage with education. We would suggest that during this time, you think about what activities you value and enjoy and focus time on these. This may include seeking out a job, volunteering, taking up or returning to a previously enjoyed hobby or learning new skills.

Young people who remain occupied after hospital report that they find the discharge easier. As well as keeping busy, volunteering or working, can help you build confidence, make friends, improve your self-esteem and provide you with a sense of achievement and enjoyment. All important factors in sustaining good mental well-being and developing hope for the future.
